Halitosis (Bad Breath)

Bad breath can be embarrassing. When you experience unpleasant tastes or odors coming from within your mouth, this can be caused by a variety of things. Foods we eat are absorbed into our bloodstream, enter our lungs, and the odors from those foods can be exhaled. Those that don’t eat often enough can also experience halitosis. Tobacco use is another cause of bad breath. Gum disease causes unpleasant tastes and odors in our mouth, and xerostomia (dry mouth) also contributes to bad breath. Our saliva is essential to remove food particles that can cause odors. Mouthrinses are not a long lasting solution. It is necessary to brush our teeth and tongues and to floss to remove food and bacteria that collect on our teeth, gums and tongue to avoid halitosis. Make sure to keep your regular dental checkup appointments.
