Heart Disease & Oral Health

There have been studies that link cardiovascular disease to periodontal disease. While one does not cause the other, they can have an effect on the other. Chronic inflammation, like what happens when periodontal disease is present, does not just remain in one area. Inflammatory cells travel throughout the body. There has been some evidence that oral bacteria may be linked to heart disease and stroke. It is necessary to inform us of any health changes, keep regular appointments, and to practice thorough oral hygiene habits to limit chronic inflammation.
