Oral Health & Diabetes

What you need to know.

Studies show a link between periodontal disease and other chronic diseases. Diabetes is one of those diseases. Diabetics are more prone to develop chronic periodontal disease, than those that do not have diabetes. Chronic inflammation that is associated with gum disease can possibly make it harder for blood sugar to be controlled. Diabetes can also lower resistance to infections, which can contribute to making periodontal disease more severe. It is necessary to inform our dental team of any health changes so that we can plan the right treatment for individual needs.
