Oral Cancer

Oral cancer can be found anywhere in the mouth and around the lips. It can start as a small sore or spot and progress into something that does not heal. It can be a lump, pit, crusted area or rough spot and can change in color. Be aware of any changes in the feeling of your mouth (tenderness or numbness), or any difficulty swallowing, chewing, or speaking. Those that use alcohol and tobacco and have prolonged sun exposure are at a higher risk for developing oral cancer. An oral cancer screening is a part of your dental checkup, so keeping your scheduled appointment is important.
